Sometimes we need to focus more on HOPE, as a society. Last week, I found out that someone I knew died of COVID-19. I did not know this person well or intimately but I knew of them. For some reason, I was overcome with sadness and I did not know what to make of it, as we were not truly connected; but, does that even matter? People everywhere are affected by the death of one, regardless of the nature of your relationship with that one. Our hearts are touched and tainted by the stories we hear and read.
This experience made me think about and focus on hope. Hope is an opportunity to refocus our attention and desire toward what we want to see rather than what we see at this moment. Hope is an optimistic state of mind, a positive focus and expectation, and an outcome that we might want or desire.
Hope is paramount today and every day. Research shows that hope actually helps us to manage so many negative experiences, such as stress, adversity, anxiety and despair. It can help improve motivation, well-being, and of course, mindset. I see this as an active way to experience life, especially during these hard times. This can be a motivator in keeping us focusing in a positive direction, something that might seem unimaginable right now.
Hope helps us to keep on going with a little more energy and positivity than we might have otherwise felt if hope was not present. With hope, we don’t lose sight of where we are. We acknowledge that times are tough and look forward, feeling confident that the present is just temporary. When we refocus our energy with an attitude of hope, we ultimately shift our minds and our hearts. Hope encompasses many things, but most importantly, resilience. Hope demonstrates that we can overcome challenging times by being resilient in the present while focusing on better times in the future.
So, how do you invite hope into your life?
Try to be optimistic about moving forward. Look for something that inspires you, intrigues you and helps you create new meaning for the future. This reminds us that there is something bigger than ourselves at work. When we bring hope to the forefront, we can start to feel an energy that can bring a big shift to our state of mind and help us move forward on a moment-to-moment basis.
Hope helps us reshape our future plans and goals. Create a clear vision and an active focus on what the future looks like for you.
Hope helps us to strengthen our resilience and ability to move forward even in the face of obstacles, troubles and setbacks. It offers visual images each time we consciously engage with hope. Try to bring a visual image into your mind and move forward feeling a different sense of internal energetic pull.
Remind yourself that you can move forward even when challenges and adversity are present.
